Covered in glitter by: Abby Benjamin The uniqueness of each festival experience never ceases to amaze me.  No matter how many festivals you have under your cute fairy utility belt, each one still has its own flavor, personality, and bundle of memorable conversations and experiences. Shadows Ranch is one of my favorite festival venues.  It’s comparable in feel to Horning’s Hideout outside of Portland, OR and Spirit of the Suwannee near Jacksonville, FL.  However, Shadows Ranch provides a much smaller and more intimate experience.  The campground is nestled in Georgetown, CO, 45 minutes outside of Denver.  Its lush green forest provides shade, comfort, and hammock opportunities for festy-goers.  A rushing river runs through the property, and stunning mountain views peak out in every direction.  It’s one of the ultimate settings to experience Colorado’s beauty. Shadows Ranch has previously hosted the well-known Colorado music festival Sonic Bloom, The Unified Field.  This…

A Preview for ARISE Music Festival Loveland, CO August 8th-10th, 2014 Written by Matthew Cocinero I can barely contain the bubbling energy inside me! It’s a side effect of the recent realization that I will soon be returning to the beautiful Colorado landscape for another incredible and refreshing co-created event.  For the second year, Arise Music Festival will be returning to Sunrise Ranch, which is nestled in the stunning foothills…

Light the Fuse: a Review of Electric Forest 2014 June 26-29, 2014 Rothbury, MI Written by Alex Kratzert “Music has always been a matter of Energy to me, a question of Fuel. Sentimental people call it Inspiration, but what they really mean is Fuel. I have always needed Fuel. I am a serious consumer. On some nights I still believe that a car with the gas needle on empty can…

An Interview with Tim Palmieri of Kung Fu Electric Forest Music Festival Rothbury, MI Written by Alex Kratzert At about 3:00 PM on Sunday, June 29th 2014, I was sitting in the media tent flipping through photos, guzzling water and nursing down a chicken quesadilla. There was a threat of rain for that day and photographers became very anxious and curious as to how their gear would hold up. Then…

A Review of Ziontific Summer Solstice Music Festival Stockbridge, VT – June 20-23rd, 2014 Written by Mitch Smith Photos by Kevin Hardman My foot, I thought, peeling off the sock attached to my right foot and exposing the creature underneath for the first time since arriving at the Ziontific festival grounds. I’d been a fairly nocturnal animal as of late, working days in a fluorescent basement and, consequently, both going…

Sonic Bloom 2014 was one for the books. Our brothers and our sisters of this amazing community came with open arms and a new respect for the new location at American Safari Ranch. Celebrating its 9th year in Colorado, Sonic Bloom took this new venue by storm and showed us all what this gorgeous state has to offer. It was a drastic change from what most of us were used…

YES! We’re going to Gratifly Music and Arts Festival this year! This was an experience I wanted to be a part of last year, but couldn’t make it work, and sent our brave reviewer Sally to cover it for us. Sparkleberry Lane is super stoked to be supporting this event because they are promoting a conscious, uplifting, community-building festival experience right here on the East Coast. While “transformational” festivals- festivals…

A Preview for the Frendly Gathering Timber Ridge, VT June 27th-28th, 2014 Written by Britton Beal The Frendly Gathering is back for the fourth consecutive year and guaranteed to be bigger and better than ever. This year’s Frendly Gathering boasts a bigger line-up, bigger crowd, and bigger gaggle of giggling girls swarming now, U.S. Olympic Snowboarder, Danny Davis. The end of June every year seems to be a fast-paced transitional…

B-Conscious

Wherever your festivities bring you today, I invite you to take a moment to consider the word ‘freedom’ and the role it has played in your life. Although the meaning of this expression has changed gigantically since it’s authorized inception the experience, through time, has granted many a similar opportunity. Be it the right to vote, marry the same sex, medicate with the use of cannabis, identify yourself as an individual of your own creation or simply just speak your mind; this word creates POWER. Not to be confused with the occasional corruption we see in government today, but instead the ability WE THE PEOPLE are capable of achieving- conquering the American Dream, whatever that means to you.

I began studying Horticulture in Charleston, SC about two years ago because I was becoming more and more aware of the atrocities of the government regulating the FDA. I also spent some time on a medical marijuana farm in California right before I went back to college and was inspired by the efforts of the land owners to use all available resources and cut back on utility cost and land…

As the season of rebirth blooms into full fruition, I can’t help but feel a need for new beginnings.  There is no denying this urge is physiologically derived, an echo of our innate, biological call to awaken the hibernating and bundled spirit from the winter’s cold into the newness of Spring.  This past snowy New Hampshire winter was strenuous on my physical and mental balance, so spring has entered with…

So wait, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, how did that name manifest? Haha we’ve definitely gotten that question before. Pigeons Playing Ping Pong is actually a real thing, not a random collection of P-words. B.F. Skinner, the behavioral psychologist, trained pigeons to peck a ball back-and-forth through operant conditioning… you can actually see a clip of this on YouTube, right above all of our YouTube videos. So back in college when…

BUNK: adj.  1) Substances duplicitously sold as illegal/illicit/recreational chemicals that do not produce the desired effect. 2) Illegal/illicit/recreational chemicals cut to such an extreme that their effect is severely reduced. (www.urbandictionary.com) Ahhhh Festival Season.  The perfect time to give your tent and sleeping bag some much needed appreciation, revel in your favorite musical acts together in one gorgeous natural setting, make new life-affirming friendships, and do other shit (largely in public)…

Musical entertainment has been around for almost all of human history, but the shows designed by V Squared Labs are really a thing of the future. By collaborating with music producers to build “mood boards” summarizing the theme of each show, Vello Virkhaus, the company’s founder, is able to construct reusable sets that tour with artists and accompany them onstage. Creating massive visual arrangements makes the concert-goer’s experience well worth…
