Historic in its organic nature, Red Rocks Ampitheater in Morrison, Colorado is the venue on everyone’s bucket list. It’s the only naturally-occurring, acoustically-perfect amphitheater on earth, and they just released their Spring/Summer 2015 line up. If you’ve yet to experience the sounds that rumble between this venue’s red rock walls, 6,450 feet above the Denver skyline, then maybe this is the season for you to make the trip and scratch this one off the list!

We’ve strawberry picked the venue’s top ten shows of the season to help guide your decision (these are chronological, we could never purport to decide what is most worthy from this fantastic lineup):

April 17: Kick starting the season is a Sparkleberry Lane favorite, The Disco Biscuits, with special guests Mickey Hart & Bill Kreutzmann of the Grateful Dead.  This collaboration made its debut in Washington, DC at the 9:30 club right before Gathering of the Vibes 2014. We’re glad to see the Grateful Biscuits are jamming on.  Break Science  will also play a set. Stay tuned for our coverage of this one!

May 7: Since he was eight years old, bass virtuoso Les Claypool has been fascinated with David L. Whooper’s Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (based on the Roald Dahl book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory).  Last year, he decided to throw a Willy Wonka-themed Primus New Year’s Eve show.  The show felt so right that Primus soon took to the studio to record a reinterpretation of the soundtrack from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.  This tour will be showcasing the new album, and Claypool couldn’t be more thrilled to become a real Willy Wonka on stage!

May 9th:   Gramatik’s bass heavy music rumbles through the heart  in a way every heart should be shaken.   Helping Denis Jasarevic position himself for the evening is an electronic menu of sounds.  Our crystal ball forecasts funk-boy bandish, Cherub to hit the stage with Gramatik for their collaboration song, “Obviously.”  Australian based Opiuo  is sure to deliver his squishy-glitchy bass-whompin’  music along side fellow supporting acts Russ Liquid and Luxas who are both on Gramatik’s record label,  Low Temp.  Bring your safari hats for this one, heavy diversity in style is expected; it’s time to go exploring!

May 12th: Multi-platinum artist Lana Del Rey will be taking over Red Rocks with special guest, Courtney Love.  Her 2015 “Endless Summer Tour” is in support of her latest album, ULTRAVIOLENCE, which debuted at #1 in 15 countries.  This will also be her biggest North American tour to date. Don’t miss her one of kind sound shake the rocks!

May 16: Traveler of the universe Dave Tipper will light up the rocks mid-May with his mystical soundscapes.  His first performance at Red Rocks will be accompanied by visionary artists Alex and Allyson Grey, digital projections onto the rocks of the amphitheater by Android Jones, hypnotic performances by the Quixotic troupe, and psychedelic sounds by the wizard Ott.  This gathering of beautiful beings and other-worldly sonic and visual stimulation is an event that will surely go down in Red Rocks history.

May 26: Electro-funk Canadian duo, Chromeo is no stranger to the electronic dance world. Leaving lasting impressions since 2002, David Macklovitch and Patrick Gemayel always know the right prescription of sounds and with it, properly dose their dance floor.  Along side rising up – HOT- act, Odesza is sure to wash over Chromeo’s energy well with their blissful electro-pop. Formed in 2012, don’t let the ten year difference in performing experience fool you, Odesza’s  Harrison Mills and Clayton Knight mirror Chromeo’s success with a music career originating in Seattle and still in its infancy.  The art work of this poster nearly says it all, a gorgeous combination. Seriously, thank you to the brains behind this one!

June 5: Both of these incredible groups played Red Rocks for the first time last summer as support acts.  It was such a great fit that they decided to tag team for a night of mind-blowing funk jams on the rocks.  Brooklyn-based members of Lettuce are known as the “modern-day rulers of old school funk”.  Their sound will pair well with Colorado locals The Motet, who never fail to make you groove.  We bet our best jar of glitter that there will also be some amazing collaborations with members from both bands.

July 3: The Indiana boys we all know and love will be shredding the rocks at the peak of summer. Umphrey’s past Red Rocks performances have been absolutely insane.  Joining their jams are progressive psychedelic rockstars Papadosio and heavy instrumentalists TAUK.  This will be an amazing night to let loose and groove down.

July 24-26: SCI returns to Red Rocks for a whole lot of cheesy greatness.  We’re in for three nights mid-summer, accompanied by some rockin’ and diverse support.  Vermont’s Twiddle brings a fresh, multi-genre sound and Dopapod‘s experimental nature provides an intricate, high energy show.  Nahko and Medicine for the People‘s live experience is truly unique and uplifting.  A lot of amazing musicians are coming together for this three night run, and, in our Sparkleberry experience, a Cheese run never disappoints.

August 21: Float on a cloud high above the city for this blissful bluegrass synergy.  Seasoned Red Rocks vets Yonder Mountain String Band return with heavy-hitters Greensky Bluegrass and the heartwarming song birds of Fruition.  If you’re a string music fan, this show should definitely be on your list this summer.

We Hope to see you on the Rocks this summer!
