Flagstaff is a quaint little town tucked away in the mountains of Northern Arizona, home of the NAU Lumberjacks, microbreweries and the world’s largest Ponderosa Pine tree forest.  The energy in Flagstaff is super friendly, and its woodsy vibe and constant stream of amazing musical events attract people from all over.  Now that summer is sizzling down to its end, the shows seem to be getting cooler and cooler. This month Culture Shock will be presenting the Kaleidoscope Kamp Out.  Culture Shock is an EDM event hosted monthly at the Green Room and has brought us events like Bassnectar, Mimosa, and Pretty Lights.  KKO is an over night event that will take place on Saturday September 29th at one of my favorite Venues in Arizona, The Pepsi Amphitheatre.

Instead of having a line up spread across several days, KKO happens in just one day and allows its attendees to spend the night! Over twenty different performers on two stages will be giving us something to dance about throughout our stay. Throwing it down like they always do on the main stage will be Jason Hann and Michael Travis of EOTO. Some of us might have been lucky to catch these guys here just a few months earlier when they performed with the String Cheese Incident!

Another powerful headliner from the 2012 festival circuit, Tipper, will also be gracing our eardrums with his vibrations at KKO.  I missed my opportunity to see Tipper at this year’s Lightning in a Bottle and have been dying to see him ever since fellow sparkleberries described his sound as “skull candy for the brain” and “music for tribal warriors of the digital age.”  Tipper is sure to be an unusual act, different from most EDM, and I feel certain that this experience will blow the roof off Flagstaff, AZ!

Also joining us will be Elliot Lipp, Minnesota, and Nashville based duo Cherub. Cherub has been making it big across the country with their hit track “Doses and Mimosas,” and their surprise performance with Afroman at the Festival of Gnarnia earlier this month in North Carolina.  Other acts include  Jason Hann’s Prophet Massive, Cosby Sweater (which sounds interesting), and Endolplasmic. On top of all the sound pleasing music, Circus Bacchus, Flagstaff’s very own local circus group, will be whipping out magical performances to admire throughout the event.

Those choosing to “kamp-out” will need a camping pass which can be purchased on the venue website for only $16 per person. The pass grants access into the camping area, which is conveniently located 1/8th of a mile away from the stages at “The Fort.” The camp grounds are also connected to the awesome urban trail system where a beautiful bike ride can lead you right into downtown about two miles away. If you feel compelled to stay longer the option is available and you can make reservations by contacting Coconino County Park at (928) 679-8000!

Kaleidoscope Kamp Out is the perfect way to bring your scorching summers here in the Arizona deserts to an end. So please feel free to come on out, shake your booties to some bass, kamp out with your good friends, and, as always, spread your sparkle with us!  Hope to see you there!
